Map of the mental self
A series of six phenomenological uploads. Systematic exploration of all layers of the mental self through the voice.
Before you begin, it is important to understand what exactly happens in this process. Not instructions. Not motivation. It is understanding - because without it it is just an exercise. With him, this is research that changes something fundamental.
Where does internal dialogue come from?
Your brain is never silent.
Even when you do nothing, it works. Scrolls through the past, builds scenarios for the future, conducts an internal monologue - endless, background, almost always automatic. Neuroscientists call this network the Default Mode Network - the network of the passive mode of the brain. It is activated precisely when you are not busy with a specific task. And it consumes a colossal resource.
But that's not what's important.
Importantwho speaksinside this dialogue.
The answer is your mental self. More precisely, a set of ideas about yourself that you have accumulated over your entire life. Who do you think you are? How do you describe yourself? What do you know about yourself? What are you thinking about yourself? All these layers - conscious and unconscious - form a virtual model of oneself. And it is this model that generates internal dialogue.
She speaks in your voice. She uses your words. But she is not you - she is your copy. Made up of everything you've ever thought about yourself, heard about yourself, decided about yourself. It duplicates itself over and over again - and calls it thinking.
The problem is not that this model exists. The problem is that most people live inside it without noticing it. Like a fish doesn't notice water.
Six Self-Representations
The mental self is not a monolithic structure. This is a system of several layers that work simultaneously but in different ways.
Sessions
Each upload is a separate layer. The instructions before each session explain what exactly you will be researching and why it is important.
Why are six layers stronger together than individually?
Each layer separately gives a partial picture. Together they provide something fundamentally different.
In neuroscience there is a concept of convergent validity - when different measurement methods show the same thing, it means that you have found something real. When different layers of self-ideas coincide, this is the real basis of personality. When they contradict each other, these are zones of internal conflict. This is where the causes of most problems live that a person cannot solve for years.
For example. A person consciously says that he values freedom, but historically he chooses security every time. Projectively, he sees himself as a leader, but implicitly he always gives in. Socially he displays confidence - but existentially he does not believe that his life matters. This is not a contradiction that can be seen from within. On the outside it is an obvious map of conflict.
That is why six unloads are all needed. One upload is the testimony of one witness. Six unloads is a cross-examination. Truth emerges in intersections.
What happens to the brain during unloading?
When you talk about yourself out loud without stopping, several things happen at the same time.
Firstly, the left hemisphere and verbal processing areas are activated - you formulate. But at the same time, the right hemisphere is also activated - especially when the topic touches emotionally. EEG studies show that during an autobiographical narrative the brain operates in a mode of significantly higher integration than in a normal conversation. Networks that usually do not interact begin to synchronize.
Secondly, the act of speaking out loud is qualitatively different from internal monologue. This is called the production effect - when you say a thought out loud, you process it differently. You hear it as an external object. This creates a distance between the observer and the content - what in cognitive science is called metacognitive awareness. You begin to see your beliefs as beliefs—not as facts.
Third, a continuous stream of unedited speech bypasses censorship. The prefrontal cortex—the area of control and social filter—gradually decreases activity when a person talks nonstop for several minutes. This is a well-studied phenomenon. This is why psychoanalysis used the method of free association - not because it is beautiful, but because it works neurobiologically.
Psychological context
The idea of multiple self-representations is not new. It appears in different traditions - and this is precisely what indicates that we are talking about something real and not about a theoretical construct.
INpsychoanalysisFreud described the conflict between the conscious and the repressed. Jung added the concept of the Shadow - that part of the Self that a person does not recognize as his own but which continues to operate. The Implicit Self in this series is a direct descendant of this tradition.
INhumanistic psychologyCarl Rogers separated the real self and the ideal self. The greater the discrepancy between them, the higher the anxiety and the lower the psychological well-being. The Projective Self in this series deals with precisely this discrepancy.
INcognitive psychologyThe theory of schemas has developed - stable patterns of thinking about oneself and the world that are formed in childhood and then work automatically. The historical self is direct work with schemas.
INnarrative psychologyDan McAdams showed that a person constructs identity through stories about himself. Personal history is more than just memories. This is an active interpretation that determines who a person considers himself to be and how he acts. The entire series of uploads is based on this principle.
INBuddhist psychologythe Anatta concept directly says that there is no fixed Self. What we call ourselves is a dynamic process, a set of habitual reactions and identifications. That is why meditative practices are aimed at observing this process from the inside. Uploads do the same thing—only through speech.
INontopsychologyMeneghetti described the gap between the semantic field - the deep intelligence of the body - and the deviation monitor - a system of social programs that suppress this intelligence. The internal dialogue in this system is the voice of the deviation monitor, not the person himself.
Why is this the path to silence
Here is the most important thing.
Inner dialogue is not thinking. This is the work of modeling yourself. The model speaks about itself, to itself, for itself. She comments, evaluates, scrolls, plans - using those ideas about herself that are embedded in her.
When you unload this model, you make it visible. The visible ceases to be automatic. This is a fundamental principle of any awareness - you cannot observe what you consider yourself to be. You can only observe what you have already separated from yourself.
Six unloadings are a systematic separation. After you have spoken through all the layers - Conscious, Implicit, Social, Historical, Projective, Existential - you have a complete map of the model. You see her from the outside.
And then a question arises that could not have arisen before:if this is a model, then who is watching it?
The one who observes does not speak. He is simply present. This is the entry point into silence - not as in the absence of sound, but as in the absence of the one who comments.
If there is no one who speaks, there is no internal dialogue.
This is not a metaphor. This is a neurophysiologically verifiable condition. When switching to Pure Nothing mode - stopping the internal dialogue - the EEG shows a decrease in DMN activity, an increase in the alpha rhythm, and a decrease in beta activity. HRV is growing. The stress index is falling. It's measurable. It's reproducible. This is a skill - not an accident or mysticism.
What happens next
A series of six unloads is the first stage. Phenomenological. You create material - a detailed map of your mental self through your own voice.
Your personal report is based on this material. AI analyzes all six layers together - finds coincidences, contradictions, blind spots, dominant patterns. You get a mirror that cannot be created in any other way - because it is collected from your own words, and not from other people's interpretations.
The second stage is the practice of switching states. Seven modes of consciousness. Verification using EEG and physiological sensors. Forming the skill of managing internal dialogue - not suppression, not struggle, but management through understanding the structure of the one who is speaking.
The third stage is the study of changes over time. Minimum six months of data. Dynamics of neuroplasticity. The real measurable result is not a subjective assessment, but objective data.
It all starts with unloading. From the fact that you talk about yourself - honestly, without stopping, everything that is.
How to work with uploads
There is no correct answer. There is only your answer. The less you edit, the more valuable the material.
When it seems that everything has been said, continue. It is beyond this point that something that usually does not come out begins.
All that comes out is information. Not bad and not good. Just data about how your model works.
Take your time between them. Give yourself time between sessions - a day or two. Let each layer settle.
You can't know in advance what will be important. Sometimes the most significant things sound like insignificant things. AI will find patterns that are not visible from the inside.
Now - the first unloading. Conscious Self.
What you know about yourself and are ready to say out loud. Start with this.
